Committees
Cape George Colony Club has 12 advisory committees consisting of volunteer members who provide recommendations and support on specific topics, but do not have the authority to make final decisions. These committees help the board by handling specific tasks, increasing member involvement, and offering specialized knowledge, while the board retains ultimate governance authority.
Key functions and responsibilities
- Provide expert advice: Members often have skills or experience that help the board make informed decisions.
- Handle specific tasks: Committees take on ongoing or one-time projects, such as planning social events, reviewing architectural plans, or monitoring finances.
- Gather community input: They can serve as a liaison between members and the board, gathering feedback and representing the community's interests.
- Make recommendations: They research topics and present their findings and recommendations to the board, which then discusses and acts upon them in an open meeting.
- Ensure compliance: Committee members must understand the HOA's governing documents and operate within them.
Types of committees
- Standing committees: These are permanent committees that handle ongoing tasks. Cape George Colony Club has 12 standing committees which are advisory to the Board.
- Ad hoc (or special) committees: These are temporary committees formed to address a specific, short-term issue, like a committee to help with a clubhouse redesign or to review potential changes to the bylaws. Once the purpose of the Ad hoc committee is completed and recommendations are made to the board, the committee is disbanded.
